Full Professorship in Sensor-Based Geoinformatics

University of Freiburg Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

The Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a Full Professorship (W3) in Sensor-Based Geoinformatics in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
  • Application deadline: 24.10.2022
  • Publication date: 23.08.2022
  • Start-date: 01.10.2023
  • Fulltime position
  • Id no.: 00002464

The professorship represents the field of «sensor-based geoinformatics» including remote sensing in research and teaching. Future research and teaching will focus on novel development and refinement of methods for automated, spatial measurements, assessment and modeling of structures (e.g. morphology, trees), processes (e.g. vegetation and forest dynamics) and/or exchange processes (e.g. carbon and water cycle) in geosystems and ecosystems. Future research should develop methods that serve a quantification and feed into predictions of spatially-resolved landscape and/or environmental changes for process research, risk analysis and early warning systems and/or aspects of global change. New approaches and methods in the field of automated data collection including remote sensing, data mining, data analysis and/or geo-modeling based on environmental data are to be developed and applied.

An emphasis on teaching in the various B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses of the faculty is expected that cover the fundamentals of geoinformatics, remote sensing, spatial modelling and geovisualization.

Prerequisites for the employment of professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.

The following application documents are to be submitted:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Certificates of degrees and academic qualifications
  • Complete list of papers and invited lectures specifying the five most important publications
  • List of current and previous projects including the financial support received
  • Concept paper outlining future research and teaching foci (max. 1–2 pages)
