About UNSW Canberra

University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Canberra is a campus of UNSW located at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra. UNSW is not like other places you have worked, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter. It is the reason we are one of the top 50 universities in the world and a member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and do meaningful work, you’re in the right place.

At UNSW, we pride ourselves on being a workplace where the best people come to do their best work.

Why Your Role Matters:

At UNSW Canberra, we believe what makes our people different is our desire to ‘make it matter’. This means different things depending on the role you have.

In one sense it’s about the big picture work we do here. The research and innovation that literally goes out into the world and makes a tangible difference to people’s lives. Evidenced by the fact that we’re Australia’s #1 university for impact with globally recognised academics.

But ‘making it matter’ isn’t limited to our high-profile work. It can be as simple as taking the initiative to help a student settle into university life. Or doing your job so carefully and competently that the people who rely on you can get on with their jobs.

Because at the end of the day, we believe every single role has a ripple effect that contributes to something bigger. That’s what makes working here so meaningful, and why we’re one of the top 20 employers in Australia.

We genuinely believe flexibility is an important part of supporting and building long and rewarding careers. We offer a range of support from flexible work arrangements to generous entitlements like full gym facilities on campus.

We’re the official education provider for the Australian Defence Force and are committed to furthering the intellectual edge of our defence force. As a Head of School, you will be working with your staff from your school and the rest of the faculty in achieving this goal. With a new city campus to host a Defence and Security Innovation Precinct you can work at a university that is doing cutting-edge research with real-world impact while embodying a culture of educational excellence that fosters lifelong learning amongst our staff and students.

If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and be part of a nurturing work environment—explore our current vacancies to see what career opportunities are available to you.
