Position Summary

The CHRO Leadership Academy will provide training to those aspiring to the CHRO role, those nearly-ready for Chief HR Officer (CHRO) roles, and those recently seated CHROs. The program will offer professional training over 9 months through a variety of mechanisms including executive coaching, recorded training modules, and participant cohort meetings. The program manager/instructor will work within three areas related to the Academy:

  1. Provide professional training. The program manager/instructor will collaborate with the Associate Director for Outreach and SHRLR faculty to provide executive training and coaching to four participants.
  2. Engage in instructional development. The program manager/instructor will plan and deliver cohort learning sessions throughout the year, produce learning modules, and facilitate co-production of learning modules with HR executives and SHRLR faculty.
  3. Serve as the lead administrator for the CHRO Leadership Academy and report to the Associate Director of Outreach. The program manager/instructor will be responsible for recruiting participants, executive coaches, and working with SHRLR Associate Director of Outreach and staff to market the program.

The annual hours for this position are set in the following categories:

  • 12 hours in the first month and 4 hours in the subsequent 8 months engaging in executive training and coaching per participant for four participants.
  • 40 hours in instructional development
  • 60 hours engaging in program administration, marketing, and recruiting participants.

Work Location:   Remote, with the ability to travel infrequently upon occasion to the site of the client (for initial assessments and consultations), to MSU’s East Lansing campus, or to occasional in-person gatherings of cohorts (post-pandemic).  This could include international travel.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in human resources and labor relations or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years prior experience as a Chief Human Resource Officer.
  • A deep understanding of the success factors for Chief Human Resource Officers.
  • Ability to manage/lead an executive development program
  • Ability to effectively coach executives.
  • Have relationships with CHROs around the world and connections to the MSU SHRLR faculty.
  • Knowledge of and experience with analytical interpersonal assessment tools (such as Hogan Personality Inventory, California Psychological Inventory (CPI), Work Personality Inventory (WPI), Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), or The Predictive Index.
  • Excellent listening abilities.
  • Ability to navigate through complexity.
  • Willingness and ability to be available on demand by participants for urgent mentoring.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of industries and work environments and how those shape corporate culture accordingly.
