Position Summary

The Department of Urban Education in the School of Arts and Sciences–Newark (SASN) at Rutgers University–Newark seeks part-time instructors (Lecturer/Coadjutant) for the Spring 2026 semester. Instructors will teach education survey courses or upper-level courses on designated themes or topics.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the full range of instructional duties, including:

  • Preparing course materials

  • Creating and posting a course syllabus

  • Delivering instruction during assigned course times

  • Holding office hours and providing adequate out-of-class support

  • Responding to student emails

  • Designing, conducting, and grading assessments in a timely manner

  • Submitting final grades

Course assignments may require teaching daytime, evening, weekend, off-campus, online, hybrid, remote, or mixed instructional formats, based on departmental needs.

Position Details

Position Title: Part-Time Instructor, Urban Education
Position Status: Part-Time
Salary: Minimum of $2,777 per credit

Final compensation will consider qualifications, experience, expertise, available funding, market benchmarks, and internal equity.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree required

  • Ph.D. or other terminal degree preferred

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level strongly desired
