Job Description

Are you an electronics engineer with experience in DC/DC-converters and in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and would you like to contribute developing a radiation hard power distribution scheme for High Energy Physics experiments?

We are working on the development of a family of radiation-hard DC/DC converters from a 48V input voltage down to the 0.9V-1.2V required by the load electronics. The converters are state of the art Point of Load regulators, ranging from hybrid assemblies using GaN power transistors and rated to 48V to fully integrated on-chip regulators switching at high-frequency (200MHz) and supplying moderate currents for System-On-Chip implementations.

We are seeking to strengthen our team in charge of all development phases from R&D to production and including architecture choice, transistor level ASIC design, PCB design for efficiency and low mass, full electrical, reliability and radiation test characterization. Join us!

 

Qualifications

Eligibility criteria

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
  • You have graduated or are about to graduate (within six months from the date of the committee), with a university degree (BSc or MSc level) and have no more than 4 years’ relevant experience after obtaining your degree in the field of electronics engineering or a related field (analog or power electronics).. Please note that experience prior to the latest obtained degree will not be considered for the calculation of your overall years of experience.

Essential skills and experience

  • You have experience and you are passionate about development of step-down DC/DC converters;
  • Good knowledge in power electronics;
  • You enjoy working in a small and dynamic development team, participating in all the development phases, from architecture choice to hardware design, production and testing;
  • You are keen on building and programming test setups with MATLAB or LabVIEW;
  • Knowledge in designing electronic boards with Cadence Allegro or Altium.

Desired skills and experience

Professional experience in one or more of the following would be an asset:

  • Analog and/or digital design in modern CMOS processes with Cadence Virtuoso;
  • Use of GaN technologies for power distribution circuits.

Additional Information

In return, CERN will provide you with:

  • An employment contract for between 6 months (minimum) up to 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months.
  • A stipend ranging from 5,305 to 6,586 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
  • 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
