Position description

The Blumberg lab in the Department of Developmental and Cell Biology at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a specialist at the junior level. Our group studies the epigenetics of gene environment interactions and how these influence the developmental origins of disease. We focus on how endocrine disrupting chemical obesogens predispose exposed individuals to obesity and diabetes across multiple generations.
A successful candidate will demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility, effective communication skills, a desire to learn new techniques and enjoy working as part of an interdisciplinary and international team of researchers. The lab is committed to mentoring young researchers and previous incumbents in this position have co-authored papers from the lab and gone on to graduate and professional schools. Individuals seeking to enter graduate or professional schools in the future are encouraged to apply. An undergraduate degree is required and experience in molecular biology and working with mice is advantageous.
Requirements for the position include:

• A B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry or related degree
• Experience with standard molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, qPCR) in a research laboratory setting
• Attention to details and strong organizing skills
• Can work independently as well as collaboratively
• Comfortable working with mice and mammalian cell culture.
• Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in molecular biology and working with laboratory mice.
Responsibilities of the position includes
• Execute, optimize and troubleshoot complex experimental protocols
• Keep accurate and detailed experimental records
• Maintain and organize laboratory equipment and inventory (including ordering supplies)
• Train and supervise undergraduate laboratory assistants
• Assist with laboratory safety
• Assist with research projects
