Role Description

Department

The University of York is a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive UK universities. The University’s Department of Theatre, Film Television and Interactive Media (TFTI) was founded in 2006, and moved into a superb, £30m purpose-designed facility in 2010.  We are currently expanding our activities and in 2021 will launch a new MA in Management in the Creative and Cultural Industries.  This programme is the first step in the creation of a new Interdisciplinary School of Arts and Creative Industries at the University.

To help develop, launch and deliver this new programme we are seeking to appoint a lecturer in Business of the Creative and Cultural Industries to start in May 2021. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of interdisciplinary initiatives within the field of creative business in both teaching and research. We have significant partnerships with creative businesses via a number of large research and knowledge transfer initiatives such as DC Labs, XR Stories, the Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN) and Weavr.

Role

The post holder will:

  • Contribute to the development of the Masters programme in Management of the Creative and Cultural Industries with a view to defining its distinctive pedagogic and vocational character.
  • Design, develop and deliver teaching on a range of core and optional modules while contributing to the programme's overall management.
  • Teach in the areas of business and management elsewhere in TFTI, and subsequently in the new School of Arts and Creative Industries.
  • Undertake research and/or professional practice
  • Undertake a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities
  • Set and mark practical sessions, supervisions, examinations, etc. and provide constructive feedback to students

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

  • You should have a PhD in a relevant subject or equivalent professional experience.
  • We are particularly seeking someone with knowledge and experience of business and management as it is applied to the Creative Industries, who can offer teaching in key business skills and who has a detailed understanding of the theory and practices of the creative economy, its institutions and policy environment.
  • Knowledge or professional experience of one or more of the following industries will be an advantage - film, television, games, theatre, popular music, live events - as will a familiarity with one of the new programme's core business areas: strategy, planning, law, finance or leadership.

This role can be full time or flexible working including job sharing will be considered.  Minimum of 29.60 hours (80% FTE) should candidates require sponsorship.

We particularly encourage applications from female and BAME candidates, who are currently under-represented within the University of York in this area.
