Job Overview

UCC wishes to appoint an experienced academic to the role of Lecturer (Above the Bar) in Education. The post requires expertise in special and inclusive education, as well as the potential to teach across programmes within the School of Education.

Reporting to the Head of School, the successful appointee will contribute to teaching, assessment, school placement, programme development, and administration at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointee will also be expected to engage in research and scholarly activity relevant to the discipline of Education and supervise research students.

The role will involve:

  • Lecturing in special and inclusive education.
  • Supporting school placement needs.
  • Supporting postgraduate studies.
  • Undertaking research.
  • Building and sustaining community links in the education field.
  • Contributing to UCC academic life.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in Education and demonstrate:

  • A broad understanding of the Irish education sector.
  • Knowledge of current policy issues relating to special and inclusive education.
  • Expertise in teacher professional learning across the continuum of teacher education.

Evidence of research expertise appropriate to the grade of the post, together with contributions to the broader field of Education, is required.

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a doctorate in Education.
  • Have expertise in special and inclusive education.
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach across programmes within the School of Education.
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of the Irish education sector.
  • Have knowledge of current policy relating to special and inclusive education.
  • Demonstrate expertise in teacher professional learning across the continuum of teacher education.
  • Provide evidence of research expertise appropriate to the grade.
  • Demonstrate contribution to the broader field of Education.

  • Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.
  • The University, at its discretion, may make additional appointment(s) from this competition following the conclusion of the recruitment process.

Salary

Appointment may be made on the Lecturer (Above the Bar) Salary Scale:

  • Scale B: €80,776 – €104,610
  • Scale A: €76,852 – €99,378

Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
