Purdue University Global is a public, nonprofit institution offering world-class online education. The School of Multidisciplinary and Professional Studies invites applications for Adjunct Faculty in History. This is a part-time, non-tenured, term-by-term teaching appointment. Adjunct faculty may teach up to 3 courses per term, not exceeding 10 courses per year.
Faculty engage in professional development, curriculum work, and other service activities as assigned. Scholarship is not required. Teaching assignments fluctuate based on course scheduling. Adjunct faculty deliver high-quality instruction and foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Availability: Qualified candidates must be available for synchronous teaching and seminar sessions Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:00–10:00 p.m. ET.
Provide a student-centered learning environment that supports student success
Teach synchronous or asynchronous seminars (10-week units)
Maintain school-determined virtual office hours per week for each class
Manage and respond to electronic correspondence from students, administrators, and university officials in a timely manner
Lead message board discussions and engage students in relevant coursework
Partner with Academic Advisors to address student concerns and refer students to Student Accessibility Services (SAS) as needed
Maintain and submit accurate student progress and grade reports
Deliver mid-term and final grades according to the academic calendar
Enforce student conduct policies as outlined in the University Catalog
Attend university, departmental, and faculty meetings as requested
Stay current with trends, techniques, and advances in instructional technology
Perform additional duties as assigned by the School
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in History (US)
1–3 years of related practical/professional experience and/or training
Online or higher education teaching experience is preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Exceptional computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, Adobe Connect); experience with Brightspace preferred
Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision
Dedication to student success and ability to engage and inspire students
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Capable of building strong working relationships across teams, departments, and schools

Adjunct compensation varies by course, program type, and student enrollment. A typical course pays $2,800 per full 10-week course.
