Job Description

The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in conjunction with the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, is seeking a full-time Academic Neurologist.

The successful candidate will be eligible for appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor requires advanced training and evidence of scholarship. The expected start date is July 1, 2026, or a mutually agreeable date thereafter.

Sunnybrook is a leader in neurology with a respected international reputation, and its dementia program is of particular impact. We are seeking a collegial candidate who is committed to collaboration within this high-performing team and who aspires to advance its clinical and academic activities.

  • Outpatient clinical care in dementia is essential.

  • Training or experience in education to support teaching the next generation of dementia care providers is valued.

  • The candidate will provide consultation to identify patients appropriate for novel therapies and support patient recruitment to the team’s academic projects.

Expertise in dementia care is central. The successful candidate will have experience in:

  • Outpatient assessment, diagnosis, and management of cognitive disorders and dementia.

  • Identifying patients appropriate for disease-modifying therapies.

The candidate will participate in shared general neurology call, inpatient consultation services, and manage related outpatient clinical responsibilities. Primary location: Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Canada. Proficiency in English is required.


Qualifications

  • MD degree

  • Certified or eligible for certification in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario

  • Post-residency fellowship training in cognitive neurology/dementia, preferably at a high-volume referral centre


Responsibilities

  • Maintain an outpatient clinical practice with protected time for teaching and support divisional research and quality-improvement initiatives

  • Teaching and administrative duties may include coordination of a cognitive neurology rotation for resident trainees

  • Performance evaluated by learners, team members, hospital administration, and education leadership


Compensation

  • Estimated remuneration: $295,000 – $400,000 per year (fee-for-service), commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, and experience

  • Eligibility for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association
