About This Opportunity

As a part of major initiative, the School is now seeking to appoint an academic in Equine Science to extend our capacity in equine breeding and genetics, nutrition and behaviour and welfare.

The successful applicant will contribute to (and for Levels C, provide leadership to) the teaching and research activities in the fields of Equine and Animal Science in the School and the University. The applicant will work with the Head of School and the Animal Science group, as well as with other staff members in the School, to develop and implement the School's strategic plan, and to enhance the teaching and research programs in Animal Sciences. Located at the UQ Gatton campus, the appointee will be responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, course coordination, and program development; and will be expected to contribute substantially to the national and international research profile of the School, supervise research students, obtain external grant funding and undertake professional activities.

This position is located at The University of Queensland’s picturesque Gatton Campus. Gatton Campus, UQ combines its Queensland Agricultural College heritage with modern research and teaching facilities in agriculture, agribusiness and veterinary science. Just over an hour’s drive west of Brisbane and five kilometres from the local township, the 1068-hectare Gatton campus offers a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and world-class facilities including the Queensland Animal Science Precinct, the UQ Veterinary Medical Centre, Gatton Research Dairy, nursery and glasshouse facilities, the southern hemisphere’s largest PV solar array research facility, and a pesticide wind tunnel facility. The campus also operates several commercial plant and animal production units in rural technologies to support teaching, research and hands-on training.

For US applicants, please note that Australian Universities use British terminology, as such a Lecturer position is equivalent to that of a non-tenured Assistant Professor position in the US.

Our Ideal Candidate

Applicants should possess a PhD in Equine or Animal Science or a related field, and have post-doctoral experience in Animal Science. Applicants should also demonstrate evidence of teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, effective supervision of research students and have a strong research portfolio in Equine/Animal Sciences.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at Academic Level B or C depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. 

  • The full-time equivalent base salary for Academic Level B will be in the range $99,542 - $118,206 p.a., plus super of up to 17%. 
  • The full-time equivalent base salary for Academic Level C will be in the range $121,939 - $140,603 p.a., plus super of up to 17%.
