Duties and responsibilities:

• Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Human and Environmental Geography. 
• Recruit postgraduate students in Geography. 
• Participate in the work integrated learning programme of the faculty. 
• Ensure active involvement in research activities of the faculty and the Department of Geography. 
• Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Human and Environmental Geography. 
• Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students. 
• Work in a team with colleagues within the Department and Faculty. 
• Contribute to leadership and perform administrative tasks related to the discipline 

Inherent requirements:

Lecturer:

• A Master’s degree on NQF level 9 in either Human or Environmental Geography or closely related field.
• Proven experience of teaching in both Human and Environmental Geography modules/courses 
• Proven experience in delivery of oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities. 
• Excellent research record as demonstrated in the applicant’s completed master’s or PhD studies. 
• Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals 
• A good academic record

Senior Lecturer:

• PhD in either Human or Environmental Geography (NQF level 10) or closely related field.
• Proven experience of teaching in both Human and Environmental Geography modules/courses.
• Demonstrated research experience in Geography as evidenced by a record of publication (Poster or Oral Presentations at conferences or equivalent activities) and external funding.
• Proven experience in presentation of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
• Provide evidence of published manuscripts accredited journals.
• Potential for excellence in graduate instruction and mentoring.
• Good Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University parallel-medium and multicultural working environment
• A good academic record.

Recommendations:

Lecturer:

• Willing to enroll for a doctoral degree in Human and Environmental Geography or closely related field at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.
• Proven research record (Journal article publications and conference presentations).
• Experience in teaching and learning at university level.

Senior Lecturer:

• A PhD (NQF level 10) in Human and Environmental Geography or closely related field
• Proven research record (Journal article publications and conference presentations).
• Qualification and experience in teaching and learning at university level
• Potential to teach effective upper-level courses related to Human and Environmental Geography.
• Potential for excellence in graduate instruction and mentoring.
• Proven experience in supervision of graduated master’s students
