Our research is driven by a strong desire to conquer the great challenges that our changing society poses to the healthcare system. While healthcare in the 20th century focused primarily on acute care, the 21st century requires us to confront the growing complexities of chronic conditions. With the widespread adoption of information and communication technologies, new opportunities have emerged for the prevention and treatment of diseases in everyday life. By harnessing these technologies alongside recent advances in artificial intelligence and statistical modeling, we aim to generate profound insights. Unlike a traditional PhD in Computer Science or Mathematics, our research is highly applied, focusing on tailoring mobile technology and advanced analytics to specific healthcare applications.
Based in the vibrant city of Zurich—one of Europe's most attractive places to live—our work is closely connected to key players and startups in the healthcare sector. You will be part of a dynamic team of motivated young researchers, working in a collaborative and supportive environment. Typically, the duration of a PhD in our group is about three and a half years, with guaranteed funding. We also support participation in conferences and optional exchange programs throughout the course of your study. The salary and general working conditions are internationally highly competitive and according to ETH standards.
