PhD Position in Discovery and Introgression of Novel Alleles in Maize Genetic Resources

Research topics:
• Molecular mechanisms underlying the response of maize to abiotic stress
• Discovery of genes regulating quantitative traits in a unique biological resource derived from drought tolerant and drought sensitive parents
• Development of effective fine-mapping approaches through imputation and haplotype analyses with the aim to discover genes regulating target traits

The successful applicant is expected to have:
• Diploma or Master’s degree in crop science, biology, molecular biotechnology, plant physiology or related disciplines (above average grades)
• Background in data science, quantitative genetics, (plant) molecular biology or plant physiology is advantageous
• Willingness to carry out both field and laboratory work • Very good English (oral and written), German is an advantage
• Ability to work in a team and to collaborate with other research groups
