The Department of Engineering Management at the Faculty of Business and Economics (UAntwerp) are looking for a full time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Dynamic environmental impact assessment of the use of geological resources.
Position
- You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis on the dynamic environmental impact assessment of geological resources. The PhD research is part of a larger FWO-SBO research project DIAMONDS in which innovative hydrogeological methods will be integrated with economic, environmental, and social impact assessments to determine threshold values that must be met to respect subsurface, environmental, economic, and social criteria for the sustainable management of geological resources in Belgium and beyond. Within this project, the PhD research will focus on the dynamic environmental evaluation of this complex system. To estimate and quantify the environmental consequences, complementary economic models will be developed (e.g. agent based models)
- You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
- You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks.
Profile
- You hold a Master degree in Environment Sciences, Business Engineering, Applied Economics, Economics, Environmental Economics or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
- You can demonstrate excellent study results.
- Your teaching competences are in line with the education visions of the University of Antwerp
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
- You show a strong affinity for interdisciplinary research.
- You show a strong interest in geology related aspects of subsurface use.
- You can easily present your research results to a non-expert audience.
What we offer
- We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed once for another two-year period.
- The planned start date is 1 November 2023 or as soon as possible after that date.
- Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- You will do most of your work at the university of Antwerp and the university of Ghent in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
