The School of the Environment is seeking Casual Academics to support teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate courses in 2026. Successful applicants will assist Course Coordinators in delivering high-quality teaching and learning outcomes across a range of environmental disciplines.
These casual roles may involve work at UQ’s St Lucia or Gatton campuses, depending on course requirements.
Casual Academic duties may include:
Assisting with practical classes, field work, demonstrations, and student excursions
Marking and exam invigilation
Facilitating tutorials or class activities
Consulting with students online or in person
Participating in induction sessions and required training
Supporting other academic activities as directed by Course Coordinators
All appointees must comply with UQ’s Code of Conduct, Work Health and Safety obligations, and sustainability practices, as well as relevant education legislation.

Applicants must have:
At least an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
Recent experience with, or capacity to quickly learn, relevant course material
UQ welcomes applications from:
PhD, Masters by Research, and Honours candidates
Postgraduate coursework students who have completed at least one semester of full-time study
Casual appointments, paid according to UQ’s Enterprise Agreement 2021–2026
Most casual rates fall within the AC30–AC50 pay scales
