The Chair for Experimental Semiconductor Physics (Prof. Sharp) at the Walter Schottky Institute of the Technical University Munich (TUM) investigates novel photoelectrode materials for solar energy conversion applications Our research also explores different design strategies to improve the photoelectrochemical activity and stability of energy materials. We are looking for a PhD student (m/f/d) to join our team at the TUM. The position is available immediately and ideally should be filled before 01.08.2021.

The project will be part of the e-conversion Cluster of Excellence and aims at understanding energy conversion reactions at the surface of semiconductor-based photoelectrodes. A strong focus will be photoelectrochemical microscopy and spectroscopy of thin film photoelectrodes at the nanoscale and under realistic operation conditions. Candidates will gain experience in operando scanning force microscopy, photoelectrochemical characterization, different deposition techniques, and structure-property characterization.

Candidates should hold a M.Sc. in physics, physical chemistry, material engineering or related disciplines. We are looking for creative, motivated students with a strong experimental background. Experience in semiconductor physics, solar energy conversion, thin film deposition, scanning probe microscopy, or X-ray spectroscopy will be an advantage. You should enjoy working in a team, demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to work independently. In addition, you should be fluent in spoken and written English.
