RESEARCH CENTRE FOR OPERATIONS RESEARCH AND STATISTICS (ORSTAT) The PhD candidate will work on a statistical topic related to semiparametric inference for complex and structural models in survival analysis. The research topics in ORSTAT cover a wide range of challenging subjects in both operations research and statistics. Next to the methodological research, ORSTAT investigates computational aspects, both for statistics and for operations research. In this way the applicability of the proposed methods is facilitated and often software is made available through websites. This broad range of skills is reflected in the research topics of each of the group's members.

Project

The research group ORSTAT of KU Leuven (Belgium) has a vacancy for a full-time PhD scholarship in Statistics, starting at the latest in September 2021, for a maximum of four years. The candidate will work under supervision of Prof. Dr. Ingrid Van Keilegom on a statistical topic related to semiparametric inference for complex and structural models in survival analysis. This work should lead to a PhD degree.  You will occasionally be involved in teaching activities, including supervision of exams.

Profile

Candidates should have a strong interest in statistics and preferably hold a Master’s degree in (bio)statistics, business engineering, mathematics, civil engineering, or equivalent.  An average degree of “distinction” during preliminary studies (bachelor and master) is required, as well as a very decent knowledge of written and spoken English.  Experience with at least one programming language (such as R) is an asset. Students that are currently in the final year of their Master studies are especially encouraged to apply.
