Postdoc in Bioimaging and 3D bioprinting

Department of Biology
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen

A 2-year postdoc position in bioimaging and 3D bioprinting is available in the Microenvironmental Ecology and Symbiosis Laboratory at the Marin Biology Section of the Department of Biology. The position is financed by a recent investigator grant in aquatic symbiosis from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation that explores microenvironments, symbiosis and other microbial interactions in corals and biofilms.

We are looking for candidates with a background in one or several of the following disciplines: bio(medical) engineering, biophysics, chemistry, soft matter physics, microscopy, 3D printing and design, multiphysics modeling, imaging and image analysis. You will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers trained in biology, chemistry and material science. Experimental work will encompass lab work on natural and 3D printed biofilms and corals in house and with collaborators in Monaco, US and Australia. Presently, the research group employs various bioimaging tools (e.g. hyperspectral and chemical imaging, light-sheet microscopy, variable chlorophyll fluorescence imaging, electron microscopy and optical coherence tomography) in combination with extrusion-based 3D bioprinting to explore the structure and function of natural biofilms and aquatic symbioses.

The postdoc’s duties include i) application and development of advanced bioimaging and 3D printing methods in studies of biofilms, corals and other aquatic symbioses, and ii) participation in supervision of students. The post may also include performance of other duties and participation in fieldwork.

Further information on the Department is linked at https://www.science.ku.dk/english/about-the-faculty/organisation/. The main workplace will be at the premises of the Marine Biological Section in Helsingør, approximately 45 min train ride from Copenhagen.

Inquiries about the position can be made to professor Michael Kühl (mkuhl@bio.ku.dk).

The position is open from April 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
