Postdoc Bioinformatics (m/f/x)

Project description:

The German Heart Center Munich has assembled a unique biomedical big data resource of over 100,000 patients, treatment and follow up in the form of electronic health records, lab diagnostics, imaging and genomics data. In this project, we will develop an artificial intelligence (AI) approach to predict patients at risk of recurrent cardiovascular events after myocardial infarction. This approach will form the basis of a novel clinical decision support system.

The project is based on close collaboration with the Institute of Computational Biology (ICB) at the Helmholtz Zentrum München, one of the leaders in developing biomedical AI solutions. Providing a deep understanding of Machine Learning algorithms in the context of computational biology and development of novel methods tailored towards solving complex biological and medical questions. A special focus is the molecular characterization of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
Both institutes provide joint supervision – computational (Dr. Matthias Heinig) and clinical (Prof. Heribert Schunkert).

Responsibilities:

- analysis of biomedical big data including different OMICs, electronic health records and imaging data
- development of AI methods and
- establishing interfaces between bioinformatics and clinics.

Profile:

- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent
- Experience in statistical analysis, ideally of genetic, genomic or imaging data
- Strong coding skills, preferably in Python and/or R
- Experience in international interdisciplinary research groups
- Knowledge to work with different data base systems (SQL/non-SQL)
