What if you could share your knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise on data science to substantive issues in the domains of marketing, consumer behaviour and/or consumer psychology? To foster new ways of looking at data, data analytics and data management practices, with the aim to extract new insights?

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious data scientist who would like to work at the interface of the domain of Marketing and Consumer Behaviour sciences and that of the Information Technology Group.

The Wageningen University groups Marketing and Consumer Behaviour (MCB) and Information Technology (INF) are leading research groups in the fields of (smart) agriculture and food worldwide. Our aim is to make essential theoretical contributions in the research fields as well as methodological contributions in the field of (big) data analytics, data science and software engineering. The position involves the exploitation and development of new data science techniques and approaches to extract innovative insights from the abundance of (often underexploited) structured and unstructured data that are available in the marketing and consumer behaviour context. You will be working with two types of data: (1) online retail data, and (2) consumer data on sustainable packaging, embedding your work in two ongoing research lines within the MCB group. You will be working closely with ongoing activities on big data analytics and Artificial Intelligence both from within the INF group and the MCB group (modelling data with ROOTS).
The person appointed is expected to be open and constructive, both in learning from other, in sharing and collaborating with others and to document new tools and methodologies for use in education programs.

We ask

We expect you to have:

  • a relevant background in data science and advanced data analytics and modeling;
  • preferably a PhD degree on a relevant subject;
  • strong motivation to exploit data science for marketing and consumer behaviour issues;
  • a good statistical background and knowledge of various research methodologies;
  • a positive attitude towards team work and an open mind for collaboration across scientific fields;
  • excellent skills in communication and writing;
  • active knowledge of English (spoken and written).

We offer

A challenging position with, depending on your experience, a competitive salary from a minimum of €2.790,- to a maximum of €4.402,- for a full working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities (scale 10). This is a temporary position for 2 years.
In addition, we offer:

  • 8% holiday allowance;
  • a structural year-end bonus of 8.3%;
