Post Doc in Mitochondrial Biogenesis in Parasitic Protozoa

University of Bern Departement of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Postdoc position: Mitochondrial Biogenesis in Parasitic Protozoa

Applications are invited for a postdoc position at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Bern/Switzerland (2 years of initial funding is available).

We are a highly motivated research group that studies various aspects of mitochondrial biogenesis using the parasitic protozoan Trypanosoma brucei as a model.
The main focus of our work is on mitochondrial protein import, mitochondrial DNA inheritance, mitochondrial ribosomes and mitochondrial quality control. Previous work has shown that these processes are very different in trypanosomes when compared to the standard model systems of yeast and mammals.
It is our aim to understand the molecular mechanisms of these processes and their significance for the evolutionary history of eukaryotes in general.
For more information and publications from our group check out our website:

Candidates need to have at least one first author publication in a peer reviewed journal. Expertise in mitochondrial biology and/or parasitic protozoa is a plus. Knowledge of German is desired but not required.
We offer
Integration in an international research group with highly motivated and engaged team members

Please send your motivation letter, CV and the names of two referees by email to Prof. André Schneider (
