Post-doctoral positions are available in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. Neurosciences and/or cellular/molecular biology, genetics, or related field with 1 year+ direct neurosciences research experience. 

These are extramurally funded positions to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of reproductive and metabolic hormones and their receptors on neuronal plasticity, cellular metabolism and stress, and cognitive function in the context of the aging brain and Alzheimer's disease (AD) development. The candidate will integrate into a vibrant laboratory that incorporates a broad range of techniques in (from behavior to systems neuroscience approaches (transcriptomics) to address the fundamental role of reproductive and metabolic neuroendocrine influences on CNS neuroprotection and/or degenerative states (www.casadesuslab.com). The candidate will be expected to conduct experiments in primary cell culture, rodent models of AD, and human cell lines to address the above questions. The candidate will also be expected to write manuscripts and grants, help in the training of undergraduate and graduate students in relevant techniques, and progressively develop independent ideas and grant proposals to support his/her science. 

Qualifications

  1. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. Neurosciences and/or cellular/molecular biology, genetics, or related field with 1 year+ direct neurosciences research experience.
  2. Experience with in vitro gene manipulation techniques (i.e. viral vector delivery of genetic materials) and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing is strongly encouraged.
  3. Primary neuronal culture preparation.
  4. Immunolabeling and imaging (confocal etc) and analysis.
  5. General biochemical techniques western blot, PCR, ELISAs etc. 
  6. Mitochondrial/cellular metabolism assays
  7. Experience with in vivo techniques involving rodent models
  8. Knowledge of RNAseq/bioinformatics is a plus but not required
