Postdoc position in virology

Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences. University of Bern. Switzerland.

Applications are invited for a postdoc position to join our virology group. The position is available as of now or upon agreement.

Our virology group works on viral and cellular factors that control the transmission, systemic spread and infectious entry of parvoviruses. We are particularly interested in the interaction of viral proteins with their cellular receptors, intracellular trafficking and uncoating. We also study the molecular mechanism of virus inactivation and removal to improve the safety of plasma-derived medicinal products, which are used for several chronic and acute life-threatening diseases.

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a solid background in virology to lead research projects related to pathogen safety in a collaboration between the university and the biopharmaceutical industry. The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in virology, and proven experience in virus purification, confocal fluorescence microscopy, nucleic acid quantification and protein expression.

We offer a highly interdisciplinary and dynamic research environment to work on a quickly progressing research project at the interface between the industry and academia, providing the opportunity to further evolve in this interdisciplinary and stimulating environment.

We look forward to receiving your application including a letter of interest explaining the skills and motivation you would bring to the post, a CV, and the names of two referees by email to PD Dr. Carlos Ros. A personal interview will be required for shortlisted candidates.
