Postdoc in Overexpression of Recombinant Membrane Proteins in Yeast

University of Bern Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine

Postdoc or PhD Position in Overexpression of Recombinant Membrane Proteins in Yeast

A Ph.D. or postdoc position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Dimitrios Fotiadis at the University of Bern, Switzerland. The Fotiadis laboratory is working on the elucidation of the molecular working mechanisms of different viral and membrane proteins by structure determination (cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography) and functional characterization.

We are searching for a highly motivated, independent and committed candidate who is willing to tackle challenges in the field of overexpression of membrane proteins. Candidates should have a Master of Science (M. Sc.) degree (for Ph.D. and postdoc position) and a Ph.D. thesis in molecular biology, biochemistry or similar disciplines (for the postdoc position).

Expertise and practical experience with the overexpression of proteins in yeast is a must. Applications of candidates lacking this request will not be considered. The candidate's work will also include the purification, biochemical (SDS-PAGE, gel filtration, etc.) and functional characterization of corresponding target proteins. Expertise with the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris and the biochemistry of membrane proteins (e.g., solubilization and purification) is of advantage.
To apply, please send CV, publication list, letter of motivation (one page max.) and 2-3 references to Prof. Dimitrios Fotiadis (see contact address below). Qualified female candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
Ph.D. and postdoc salaries are according to the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
