The MiDAS project investigates multilingualism and work migration in Danish agriculture, examining how language is valued in integration, workplace communication, and individual experiences of inclusion. The research combines multi-sited ethnography, interaction analysis, and observation to explore language practices, beliefs, and experiences.
The project consists of four work packages (WPs):
Mapping affordances and constraints to multilingualism
Studying the uses of language in multilingual workplaces (Postdoc responsibility)
Theorising the social value of language work
Developing best-practice recommendations for workplace communication
International collaboration is supported through research stays abroad and conference participation.
Project PI: Associate Professor Kamilla Kraft
Lead WP2, focusing on multilingual interaction in daily agricultural work.
Conduct fieldwork, participant observation, and recordings of interactions.
Analyze interactions mediated by humans, technology, and workplace signage.
Contribute to broader project goals (WP3 & WP4) while maintaining an independent research agenda.
Participate in collaborative data sessions and team-based analysis.
Teaching: Minimal, mainly research-focused.
PhD in sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, applied linguistics, or related fields.
Experience in interaction analysis; participant observation preferred.
Strong collaborative skills; interest in working within a research team.
Danish language skills advantageous but not required; English fluency mandatory.
Familiarity with linguistic landscape analysis is a plus.
