Salary Range: $62,232 – $88,745 (12-month appointment)
The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in Applied Economics and Policy (AEP), with an affiliation in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management.
The Postdoctoral Associate will contribute to quantifying the private value of improved soil health across the U.S. using econometric techniques and large-scale datasets. The position involves managing and executing core research activities, including:
Assembling and harmonizing large datasets from experimental trials, remote sensing, soil health databases, and farmland markets.
Developing and implementing quantitative models to estimate impacts of soil health practices on productivity, risk, and farmland values.
Leading preparation of research manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
Presenting findings at academic and professional conferences.
Collaborating with faculty mentors and external partners.
Engaging with agricultural finance stakeholders to translate research into policy-relevant insights.
Contributing to practical frameworks and tools for integrating soil health into agricultural lending and risk models.
Supervision: Prof. Ariel Ortiz-Bobea (Dyson) and Dr. Joseph Amsili, Director of Cornell’s Soil Health Program
Required:
PhD in Economics, Agricultural and Resource Economics, Data Science, or closely related field
Strong quantitative skills and experience in applied econometric analysis
Experience with large-scale data integration and global or regional economic modeling
Interest in climate risk, soil health, agricultural productivity, and policy-relevant research
Demonstrated ability and interest in interdisciplinary collaboration
Preferred:
Experience translating research into policy-relevant outputs
Familiarity with agricultural finance systems and tools
Visa: J-1 sponsorship is available
