Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of research involved in biochemical and pharmacological experiments and determinations in support of research-oriented activities at Duke University.

Work Performed

The successful candidate will:

• Perform a variety of research involved in conducting biochemical and pharmacological assays, experiments, and determinations to obtain data in support of research-oriented activities.
• Compile and document research procedures and results.
• Focus on studies of signaling by G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs).
• Perform luminescence- and bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET)-based assays.
• Set up instruments, materials, and apparatus, and operate standard laboratory equipment required for specific tests.
• Operate various electronic devices for the collection, tabulation, and calculation of data.
• Obtain, prepare, mount, and stain tissue, blood, and other substances for microscopic examinations.
• Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions.
• Assist in the development of new research procedures and techniques.
• Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment for laboratory operations.
• Clean and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
• Review the work of lower-level laboratory personnel and assist in training new personnel.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.

Required Qualifications

Education/Training

Work requires a PhD in:

• Biochemistry
• Molecular Biology
• Pharmacology
• Or another related scientific field

Experience

No additional experience is required beyond the education/training requirement.

OR

An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
