Postdoctoral researcher position available in the Lammerding Lab

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Lammerding laboratory to investigate how migration through confined spaces, for example in the context of cancer metastasis or immune cell infiltration, can modulate chromatin organization, gene expression, and promote genomic instability. The research builds on recent discoveries in the Lammerding lab that found that physical stress during confined migration can result in nuclear envelope rupture, DNA damage, and chromatin modification (see for example: Denais et al. Science 2016; Bakhoum et al. Nature 2018). We are interested in assessing the effect of confined migration in both tumor and normal cells, including immune cells. Additional research opportunities are available to investigate how cell metabolism modulates the migratory ability of cells.


All of the research projects combine fluorescent reporters, live cell microscopy and microfabricated devices that mimic physiological environments with cell and molecular biology approaches to characterize changes in chromatin modifications, organization, and gene expression.


The Lammerding laboratory is part of the Weill Institute of Cell and Molecular Biology and the Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University. The postdoctoral fellow will work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment and enjoy access to a wide variety of advanced instrumentation and expertise.   • Ph.D. in cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, or biomedical engineering
  • Experience in cancer cell biology and/or genomic instability and chromatin modifications is desired and a considerable plus.
  • Previous experience working with mammalian cells is required.
  • Proficiency in English and a successful record of publications is required.
  • Experience with microscopic imaging is preferred but not a requirement.
