Recruitment/Posting Title Post-Doctoral Associate

Department SEBS-Plant Biology

Salary Annual Salary

Posting Summary

Summary: A post-doctoral position in the Department of Plant Biology at Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA – in the laboratory of Dr. Eric Lam – is available immediately as a component in a 3-year, NSF funded joint project between Rutgers University and Stony Brook University/Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Overview: An NSF funded postdoctoral associate position is available immediately to work on the mechanisms of plant stress signaling control in Arabidopsis thaliana by a family of conserved cysteine proteases called metacaspase (MC). Recent genetic, biochemical and protein structure studies have demonstrated the involvement of members of type II MCs in regulating cell death activation and oxidative stress response pathways, with propeptides as their downstream targets to generate peptide elicitors. Additional molecular, genetic and structural approaches will now be deployed to further dissect the mechanistic basis of these functions for two prototypical members of MCs in Arabidopsis, AtMC4 and AtMC9, with distinct pathways and regulatory properties. The results obtained are expected to identify novel strategies to improve plant stress tolerance through engineering of constructs or chemical modulators that can predictably modify these signaling pathways.

Applicants should have a recent PhD in molecular genetics and/or biochemistry, preferably with experience in Arabidopsis. Ability to carry out experimental work independently is essential and an interactive personality highly desirable since our project is an integrative team with both molecular biologists and structural biology experts. Interested applicants should send a CV, brief summary of research experience, and names and email addresses of 3 or more referees to: Dr. Eric Lam (eric.lam@rutgers.edu).

Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.
