Post-Doctoral Associate of Chemical Biology

Position Details

Recruitment/Posting Title Post Doctoral Associate
Department SAS - Chem & Chemical Biology
Salary Commensurate With Experience
Posting Summary
The Shi lab at Rutgers University in New Brunswick is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to conduct cutting-edge research in the field of biophysical chemistry and cell biology. We are currently offering two exciting research topics:
1. Investigating the material properties of biomolecular condensates in mammalian cells.
2. Studying the activation and subcellular distribution of mechanosensitive ion channels.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of researchers in a state-of-the-art facility equipped with the latest technology. We encourage applicants with a strong background in biophysics, material science, biochemistry, mechanobiology, or a related field to apply. Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent degree and a record of academic excellence. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential. We offer a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and a stimulating work environment that fosters growth and development. If you are passionate about scientific research and want to take the next step in your career, we encourage you to apply.
Position Status Full Time
COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
A Ph. D. in chemistry, biophysics, cell biology, or related areas is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The candidate should be well trained in experimental biophysics or biochemistry. Candidates with experience in studying electrophysiology, biomolecular condensates, neuroscience, and/or mechanobiology are preferred.

Equipment Utilized
Micropipette manipulation and patch-clamp, optical tweezers, fluorescence microscopy, cell culture, AFM, EM.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The Shi lab is located in the Rutgers New Chemistry and Chemical Biology building, with state-of-the-art facilities, modern lab and office space to carry out interdisciplinary research.
Overview
The Shi lab combines biophysical, chemical, and optogenetic tools to study the properties of biomolecular assemblies such as protein condensates and cell membranes. We aim to understand the material and mechanical properties of these biomolecular assemblies. Our research will shed light on the physical chemistry mechanisms that underlie cell biological phenomena.
