The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University has 38 faculty staff members, divided into three divisions: Mathematics, Mathematical statistics and Computational mathematics. The Division of Mathematics carries out research in a wide range of topics in pure mathematics, including algebra, analysis, combinatorics, geometry, logic and topology.
The department has a large and active research group in algebra, geometry, and topology. Moreover, the group works closely with the corresponding research group at the mathematics department of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, which is at walking distance.
Project description
The department is looking to hire a postdoctoral researchers and we invite applicants working within algebraic geometry interpreted broadly, including also arithmetic geometry. Special attention will be given to candidates with expertise in the study of derived categories, or in algebraic geometry over fields other than that of the complex numbers. Successful applicants will be funded by Sofia Tirabassi’s Wallenberg International Postdoctoral fellow grant Derived Categories in Positive Characteristic.
Main responsibilities
The main responsibility is to carry out research. The position also includes some teaching duties (up to 20 %), which may include supervision of students. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the activities of the department, through active participation in seminars, working groups, etc.
Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar. Note that you do not need to have completed the doctoral degree to apply.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills, and to the candidate’s potential to interact with the principal investigator of the project as well as with other members of the research group in Algebra, Geometry, Topology, and Combinatorics. Applicants are expected to be able to express themselves fluently in English both oral and written, have good communication and social skills.
Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. The starting date July 1st, 2021 or as per agreement. We understand that these are difficult times, and will try to accommodate the starting date constraints of the successful applicants as much as possible.
