The Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) is one of the largest institutions at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Stockholm University. DSV is also Sweden's oldest and largest institution in IT. The department is located on the Kista campus and has about 190 employees and about 5,000 students.

Project description

The postdoc will work in a national research and development project focusing on data-driven school improvement (read more). The three-year project includes a large number of primary and secondary schools, which together with a research group intend to investigate how teaching and school practices can be developed with data-driven analysis and with the support of data that is available or that can be collected in school environments.

Main responsibilities

The postdoc is expected to have a strong interest in learning and teaching as well as produce high-quality empirical research within the project, in close collaboration with the research team. The postdoc is also expected to publish the results of their research in reputable international journals and conferences, and to disseminate them through international conferences, workshops, seminars and other appropriate events. The position will include teaching commitments, but not to a greater extent than 20 % of working time.

Qualification requirements

Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria

The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to scientific skill. The candidate is expected to have a doctorate in pedagogy / didactics, data science, big data analytics, or the equivalent, with knowledge and skills in quantitative methods (statistical analysis).

Due to the nature of the project, the candidate must master Swedish in speech and writing.

Experience in analytics, programming skills and experience/understanding of machine learning is a merit.

Terms of employment

The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2020-09-01 or as per agreement.
