At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical neuroscience, Health and rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology as well as Psychiatry and neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the Department of Health and rehabilitation.

The Unit of Physiotherapy offers a creative research environment with studies spanning several areas within physiotherapy and with extensive collaboration with research groups both nationally and internationally. Within the unit and its research groups, we have doctoral students as well as junior and senior researchers with broad expertise encompassing physiotherapy and medicine. Together, we have the capacity to conduct various types of research, including quantitative and qualitative studies, register-based research, and instrument development. The postdoctor will work within one of the section’s research groups.

Subject Area Description

Physiotherapy encompasses knowledge of and studies on human movement, and how movement, body and movement awareness, habits, and life patterns influence human health.

To broaden the field of research in physiotherapy within the Sahlgrenska Academy, the specific focus of this postdoctoral project has not been predetermined. Instead, the project will be planned and carried out in collaboration with the research group in physiotherapy to which it will be affiliated.


Job Assignments

As a postdoctor, you will contribute to projects exploring new directions within the field of physiotherapy at the department. In this role, you will work closely with other researchers in Physiotherapy at the University of Gothenburg.

You will play a key role in the planning and implementation of the project studies. The responsibilities include the entire research process, from planning and designing studies to data generation and reporting of results in the form of scientific and popular science publications, as well as presentations aimed at both the academic community and the public.

You are also expected to report back findings to the individuals involved in the studies, to ensure that the research findings are practically applied and beneficial. Participating in the planning and development of the research group’s future activities is also an important part of the position, with the aim of strengthening your academic qualifications and promoting the societal impact of research results.

The position also includes applying for research funding and contributing to teaching. The purpose of the employment is to further develop your experience as a researcher and to create favorable conditions for future academic qualifications.


Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher for this position, the applicant should hold a PhD in Physiotherapy or another relevant field is required. It is considered a merit to have demonstrated the ability to conduct studies in an area that is not yet represented within the current research at the department.


Assessment

We are looking for a candidate with documented experience in research within the field of physiotherapy. You should have demonstrated teaching proficiency at the undergraduate and/or advanced level, and have completed higher education pedagogical training, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. You must also have excellent proficiency in Swedish (at least level C1), as research activities such as method development, interventions, data generation, and analysis will be conducted in Swedish.

This position represents an initial step in an academic career. The assessment will primarily be based on scientific merits and research potential, with particular emphasis on scientific ability within the subject area.

Clinical experience within healthcare and/or social care, as well as previous success in obtaining research funding, are considered merits.

You are a structured individual with strong initiative, who enjoys working independently but also appreciates collaboration and contributing to social contexts.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.


Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 2 years, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
