The Department of Physics is one of the biggest departments within the Faculty of Science and supports a broad range of basic research in experimental and theoretical physics. It has about 250 employees of which 95 are PhD students. Many have been internationally recruited. The Department is part of the AlbaNova University Center, which apart from the Department of Physics houses the Department of Astronomy, the Physics Departments at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita).

Project description

One postdoctoral opening will be available for a outstanding individual to work with Prof. Katherine Freese in the areas of particle astrophysics and cosmology. The position is funded by the Swedish Research Council.

Stockholm University has a world-class research group in cosmology at the Oskar Klein Centre for Cosmoparticle Physics, including involvement in DarkSUSY, SPIDER, Simons Observatory, XENON-1T, Icecube/DeepCore, FERMI Gamma Ray Space Telescope, LSST, and ATLAS at CERN.

The postdoctoral fellow is welcome to participate in Scientific Programs at Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, which bring together groups of leading experts to work on specific topics for extended periods.

The postdoctoral fellow will also have access to generous research and travel funds, excellent benefits as well as excellent computing facilities.

Main responsibilities

The central research themes will be theoretical topics in cosmology and particle physics including dark matter, inflation, early universe physics, and learning about fundamental properties of the universe using cosmological data.

Qualification requirements

Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria

The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills.

Terms of employment

The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date September 2022 or as per agreement.
