Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 46 000 students and 8 500 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard equality, equal opportunities and diversity as a strength and an asset.
The two Postdoc positions are based at the Division of Astrophysics, Department of Physics, Lund University, where the successful candidates will join Prof. Oscar Agertz and the galaxy formation group. We invite applications from researchers with a background in numerical simulations of galaxy formation and evolution and/or star formation.
The positions are offered for two years. The starting date is flexible, but preferably no later than September 2027.
The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.
The successful candidates will work closely with Dr. Oscar Agertz and the galaxy formation group at Lund University. The position offers opportunities to contribute to a broad range of research projects, including cosmological zoom-in simulations of galaxy formation, the origin and evolution of the Milky Way, dwarf galaxy formation, and galaxy-scale simulations of the turbulent interstellar medium and star formation. Candidates are also strongly encouraged to pursue their own research interests and develop independent projects.
The group has access to substantial computational resources at national supercomputing facilities, which will be available to the successful candidates. For further information about the research environment and potential projects, please contact Dr. Oscar Agertz.
There will also be opportunities to participate in the supervision of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students, although this is not a requirement of the position.
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the date of employment decision. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated excellent potential for research in extragalactic astronomy, particularly in the fields of numerical simulations of galaxies or star formation. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.
Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.
For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S and OFR/S, dated 1st February 2022.
