The Department of Chemistry is seeking a doctoral scholarship holder to join the research group of Prof. Frederik Lermyte, focusing on analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry of biomolecules.


Position Overview

As a doctoral scholar, you will:

  • Conduct research on mass spectrometry for biomolecules, including stoichiometry, 3D structure, and ligand-binding investigations.

  • Develop analytical methods for complex biological samples and study the ionisation process.

  • Collaborate with researchers from other groups and universities.

  • Publish scientific articles and present research at conferences.

  • Assist with teaching, research, and service support tasks within the Department of Chemistry.


Candidate Profile

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Bio-engineering, Applied Sciences (engineering), or Civil Engineering (specialization in Chemistry). Candidates completing their degree at the time of appointment may apply.

  • Excellent academic record.

  • Teaching skills aligned with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.

  • Research qualities aligned with departmental and university standards.

  • Motivated and committed to a doctoral project, with willingness to apply for external fellowships (e.g., FWO 2026).

  • Fluency in English and Dutch.

  • High standards of quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation.
