Project Description

Third-cycle subject: Information and Communication Technology

KTH invites applications for a fully funded WASP-PhD position to join the new research group of Martin Trapp, focusing on the reliability and trustworthiness of machine learning models.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with open-source, large-scale machine learning models.

  • Conduct theoretical and methodological research to improve model reliability and trustworthiness.

  • Develop open-source libraries.

  • Publish in top-tier ML venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, UAI, AISTATS).

  • Collaborate with researchers in trustworthy machine learning.

Program:

  • Part of the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), Sweden’s largest research program in AI and autonomous systems.

  • The WASP graduate school supports interdisciplinary skills, research visits, and international professional networks.

Supervision:

  • Assistant Professor Martin Trapp and Professor Henrik Boström. Admission decisions determine supervision.

Admission Requirements

General Eligibility:

  • Second-cycle degree (Master’s) or equivalent knowledge (~240 ECTS with at least 60 second-cycle credits).

  • Strong mathematical and programming skills.

  • Background in machine learning, statistics, linear algebra, and optimization.

  • Prior research experience with peer-reviewed publications.

  • English proficiency equivalent to English B/6.

Target Degree: Doctoral degree


Employment Information

  • Only admitted postgraduate students may be employed.

  • Maximum employment length corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years.

  • Up to 20% of time may be allocated to training and administrative tasks.

  • Initial employment is for one year, renewable for up to two years at a time.

  • Licentiate degree programs have a maximum employment period of two years.
