Postdoctoral Position in Industrial Engineering

Two Doctoral researchers, Industrial Engineering and Management, Faculty of Technology

Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) discipline combines engineering and technology, business economics methods, and the human factors and behavior. IEM is unique in its multidisciplinary approach and the integrative nature that provides value and enhances efficiency and effectiveness in organisations. The IEM research focuses specifically on the following areas: operations and supply chain management, project business, product management, well-being at work and productivity. The IEM is a research unit within the Faculty of Technology. The IEM research unit conducts relevant research in its field, provides teaching, and influences the society.

About the job

As a doctoral researcher, you work in AKILIT project (Circular economy of batteries – future value chains, business models, technology, and legislation). We have two positions available, so your research focuses on either investigating the most potential 2nd life (reuse) and recycling applications of batteries or analyzing the circular value chains and business models for batteries. The project aims to develop the reuse and recycling of batteries in Northern Finland and clarify what local companies should focus on in the future from the perspectives of regional growth, employment, and green transition. The focus is on especially electric vehicle (EV) and industrial batteries and circular processes related to them. Your research work can also focus on CINTEM (Circularity-integrated mining) project’s ecosystem and business model development related tasks.

  • You have a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management.
  • You have good English skills. Having good Finnish language skills is a big advantage, as the project focuses on Northern Finland and includes communicating with Finnish stakeholders.
  • You have good cooperation, teamwork and solid interaction skills, as you work with different stakeholder groups.
  • You are also analytical and can manage your work effectively to carry out the research tasks.

Salary

The position is fixed-term for three years. The start date is 2.5.2025 or as agreed. The salary will be based on level OV02-OV04 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The gross salary will be approx. 2600-3000 € per month (before taxes).
