Position Description
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of Applied Mathematics (Network Dynamics, Multiscale Methods, Critical Transitions). The postdoc will be part of a cross-disciplinary research team including members of the Applied Mathematics Group of the School of Mathematical Sciences and the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at UCC. The postdoc will be based in the UCC School of Mathematical Sciences.
The aim of the project is to develop new mathematical techniques for the analysis of nonlinear phenomena in dynamical networks. These phenomena include tipping points and adaptation across multiple timescales, with applications in restoration ecology. Ecosystems are an example of such networks. These new techniques will advance the fields of adaptive network dynamics and critical transitions, providing a basis for modelling real ecosystems, particularly that of the Lough Hyne Marine Nature Reserve in West Cork.
In addition, the successful applicants will have the unique opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team at UCC and abroad, participate in field trips to Lough Hyne, develop predictive and data-driven theoretical models for real ecosystems, and contribute to the design of novel restoration protocols and conservation measures.
Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.
