Essential requirements for this post include a PhD in a relevant biological subject, strong background in molecular biology techniques and experience with high-throughput next-generation sequencing methodologies. Experience/interest in single-cell omics technologies and/or animal models is desirable.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

We are seeking a postdoctoral research assistant to join the group of Dr Mirjana Efremova in the Centre for Genomics and Computational Biology, to work in a Barts Charity funded position. The PDRA will investigate the role of the microenvironment during the complex process of metastatic colonisation and establishment of the metastatic niche. We recently developed a framework for inference of cell-cell communication networks (Efremova et al. Nature Protocols, 2020; Vento-Tormo*, Efremova* et al. Nature, 2018) and applied it to unravel the complex interplay in the evolving tumour microenvironment in melanoma (Davidson*, Efremova* et al., Cell Reports, 2020). In this project, we aim to integrate cutting edge single-cell multi-omics methods and spatial proteomics towards understanding both the intrinsic traits and microenvironmental cues that drive establishment of organ-specific metastatic niches. The project will combine the analysis of mouse models through collaborations and patient samples, focusing on melanoma, pancreatic and colorectal cancer. The appointed PDRA will be integrated into a multidisciplinary team and will collaborate with bioinformaticians, experimentalists and clinicians. The position also offers an opportunity to learn computational analysis of transcriptomic and epigenetic data with the help of methods and techniques established in our lab.

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 3 years, to start as soon as possible. The starting salary will be Grade 4/5, in the range of £34,220 - £43,062 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
