About the Role

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research assistant within the Liver Centre, at Barts and the London School of Medicine.  Based in the Blizard Institute, the successful candidate will work alongside Professor William Alazawi in his MRC-funded laboratory and have the opportunity to use cutting edge immunological and molecular biology techniques to study non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

Professor Alazawi’s group work in inflammatory signalling pathways and translational science has led to a significant shift in understanding the inflammatory response.  This post, funded by a three year MRC Project Grant, will study immune cell gene expression and function using antibody-directed single cell RNA sequencing in patients with different stages of NASH before and after bariatric surgery.  Functional immunological and advanced tissue imaging techniques will also be employed and we will work closely with immunologists Dr Louisa James, Professor Federica Marelli-Berg and computational biologist, Professor Conrad Bessant.

We are looking for a driven, highly-motivated postdoctoral researcher who is keen to work on this exciting project, and who can also develop their own research ideas, and with the ambition and potential to win independent fellowship funding on project completion.  Expertise in immunology, metabolism and/ or sequencing would be ideal, but we are particularly looking for drive and enthusiasm. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
