The University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR) is a $70 million purpose-built facility sponsored by Atlantic Philanthropies, the Queensland Government (Smart State funding) and UQ. The building, completed in early 2008, is located at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital site at Herston, Brisbane. The RBWH is the largest teaching hospital in Australia and the site also houses a basic medical research institute (QIMR), and a significant Faculty of Medicine presence, including the Schools of Public Health. The UQCCR has capacity for 320 staff with affiliation guided by research strengths, assessed by defined research quality indicators.

UQCCR’s mission is to improve health outcomes for individuals and populations based on rigorous, high quality clinical research. This is achieved by facilitating research and training, influencing patient care, and providing the translational linkages between basic and applied scientific research, the patient, and health outcomes. The current research themes are: Clinical Neuroscience; Women’s Cancer; Fertility; and Infectious Diseases.

About This Opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral scientist to assist with our antimicrobial and COVID-19 focused clinical academic and regulatory research programme!

A large focus of this position will be to conduct bioanalysis and pharmacokinetic analysis in this space.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Analysis of pharmacokinetic data by non-compartmental analysis and non-linear mixed effects modelling, using WinNonlin, NONMEM and Pmetrics.
• Operation of highly specialised chromatography and spectrometry equipment
• Chromatographic assay method development, validation and conduct.
• Provide training and general support to Research Higher Degree (RHD) students in the laboratory.
• Prepare research publications and progress reports and participate in regular meetings to discuss project objectives, methodology and outcomes.

This position is located at our Herston Campus, UQ’s core campus for clinical health teaching and research. 

Sharing premises with royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the QIMR Berghofer Medical research Institute, the campus houses a vibrant clinical and research community that delivers innovative and contemporary research and education programs in a clinical academic environment. Conveniently located just minutes from Brisbane’s city centre, there is access to multiple public transport connections, onsite parking and cycling facilities.

Our Ideal Candidate

Alongside the completion (or near completion) of a PhD in Pharmacy and/or a Science related discipline, we are seeking candidates with the following skills and experience:

• Experience in pharmacokinetic analysis by non-compartmental analysis and non-linear mixed effects modelling, using WinNonlin, NONMEM and Pmetrics, for academic publication and regulatory application.
• Experience in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, dosing regimen optimisation and clinical pharmacy in the antimicrobial area.
• Evidence of student supervision including overseeing laboratory work and assessment.
• An emerging profile in research in the discipline area, including evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

This is a full-time, 2 year fixed-term position at Academic Research Level A, with the possibility of extension subject to continued research funding.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of $88,411- $94,637, plus super of up to 17% (the total package will be in the range of $103,442 - $110,726).
