The School of Biological Sciences at UQ has an outstanding program of research in evolution, global change biology, ecology, marine science including aquaculture, behaviour, physiology, entomology, zoology, botany, genomics, development and conservation biology. World-class infrastructure, proximity to stunning habitats and biodiversity, and our tropical-subtropical location contribute to our unique working environment. The School hosts two research discipline centres, The Ecology Centre and the Centre for Marine Science and the National Environmental Science Program Threatened Species Research hub as well as being a node for the Australian Research Councils Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies.

The role

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work within a new project “Activating blue carbon for coastal restoration” with Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow Catherine Lovelock. Professor Lovelock’s Laureate project aims to enhance coastal sustainability to the benefit of coastal communities through research supporting restoration of coastal wetlands that will increase storage of blue carbon thereby helping to mitigate climate change. By enhancing knowledge of the benefits of restoring coastal wetlands for carbon sequestration, including financial opportunities for carbon farming and the role of blue carbon in meeting our national greenhouse gas emission targets, the project will help inform and improve coastal wetland management globally.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. wetland hydrology, marine science, coastal engineering, marine or restoration ecology) and demonstrated skills and experience in in hydrological modelling, spatial biophysical analyses and restoration ecology. We are seeking a person who has demonstrated experience in organising workshops; evidence of a strong publication record; an ability to establish effect relationships and the capacity to work with and coordinate a diverse group of scientists; possess evidence of a contribution to collaborative research, including the ability to work collaboratively with remote colleagues.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 3 years at Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range of $70,729 - $94,637p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.
