Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Computing

• Salary Package: Level A Step 6 from $93,830 to $100,559 p.a., plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading. 
• Appointment Type:  Full-time, fixed-term for a period of 3 years
• Working with leading researchers based in Macquarie University (North Ryde location)

The Role

Macquarie University is seeking a suitably qualified Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a talented and dynamic Faculty of Science and Engineering research team.  This exciting opportunity sits within the Department of Computing.

Reporting to the Director of Data Analytics Research Lab, Dr. Amin Beheshti, you will:

• Perform research and development techniques to unlock the value of big data in education sector by facilitating organising, curating, analysing, and visualizing the big education data, and use this knowledge to automate best practices in teaching and learning;
• Involve working closely with the industry partner (Cinglevue) to utilise research findings to enhance the capabilities of the Cinglevue’s Virtuoso platform;
• In collaboration with senior academic staff, carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to the Data Analytics Lab leading to novel and important scientific outcomes;
• Publish outcome of research in prestigious conferences and journals in the domain of data science, Artificial Intelligence, and related areas;
• Engage with High Degree students to foster collaboration amongst the team members and jointly work on innovative AI-enabled technologies. 

About You

You will have completed a PhD in a related discipline. You have a strong analytical mind and problem-solving aptitude. You will assist and collaborate with a team of world-renowned researchers to work on different aspects of data science and from the development of theoretical frameworks, to the empirical and data-driven analysis of real-life applications and datasets. The successful applicant will build learning algorithms and intelligent platforms to facilitate big (educational) data analytics. You will work closely with collaborators from the industrial partners.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential 

• A PhD awarded (or submitted) in a relevant discipline area, such as Computer Science, Mathematics/statistics, or other related disciplines.
• A record of publication in top peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
• Demonstrate a strong software engineering and ML/AI background.
• Demonstrated experience in the collection and processing of large data sets using big data platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in teams towards research objectives.
• Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work to deadlines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desirable 

• Experience in productisation/commercialisation.
• Experience or research in Artificial Intelligence in education. 
• Experience in successful research supervision.
