The Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Law at the University of Tübingen was founded in summer 2022. Its mandate is to support cutting-edge interdisciplinary research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and law. The first hiring round for the institute has now started and there is currently one vacancy for a

post-doctoral researcher and group leader in law (m/f/d)

The position is full-time and for a period for four years, renewable by another two years. Remuneration is in accordance with the E 13 TV-L collective agreement. A completed doctoral degree is required.

The post-doctoral researcher will assume a leadership role with respect to the Institute’s future development. They will work closely with the Institute’s founding directors (Michèle Finck, Ulrike von Luxburg and Stefan Thomas) to develop the Institute and have significant time for their own independent research. It is foreseen that the post-doctoral researcher will be the group leader of a broader team of researchers in law. They are also expected to work closely with the Institute’s researchers in computer science.

Prerequisites are a doctoral degree in law and an excellent research and publication record in artificial intelligence and law. Experience with interdisciplinary research constitutes an advantage and we explicitly encourage candidates with an international background to apply. Knowledge of the German language is not a prerequisite.
