Collaborative Research Centre 990 / CRC 990 ( at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is offering the position of a

Postdoctoral researcher in ecology (all genders welcome)

in the scientific project B11 “Biodiversity enrichment in oil palm plantations: plant succession and integration”.

The position will be limited to 31.12.2023 and can be filled by 01 December 2020 at the earliest. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13) with 100%, which corresponds to 39.8 working hours per week.

Your duties

The transformation of rainforests into oil palm plantations leads to dramatic losses in biodiversity and in ecological functioning. In order to test possibilities for alleviation, we established a biodiversity enrichment experiment by planting tree islands in an oil palm landscape. We study tree growth, plant successional trajectories, multi-trophic interactions, multiple ecosystem functions and the dynamic role of the landscape matrix. The postdoctoral researcher will do own research on the above-mentioned topics, coordinate and integrate multi-disciplinary activities as well as maintain and further develop the experimental approach.

Your profile

- Doctorate degree with a master or diploma in plant ecology, forestry or a related field.
- Research focus on biodiversity-ecosystem functioning and landscape analysis.
- Proficiency in English.
- Compelling publication record
- Willingness to collaborate with other researchers of the CRC.
- Ability to work under field conditions in the tropics.
- Advanced knowledge in statistical methods, spatial analyses and data processing.

The project will be based in Göttingen, but requires extensive field work in Indonesia.
