Position description

The University of California, Irvine is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar full time to work on the Noncredit Postsecondary Noncredit Career and Technical Education project in the School of Education. The postdoctoral scholar will support a three-year IES funded project that aims to systematically explore noncredit CTE programs at community colleges and their impacts on students’ academic and labor market outcomes. Salary and rank within the Postdoctoral Scholar series commensurate with experience. The appointment is for two years, with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2022.

Responsibilities: The postdoctoral scholar will work on a number of sub-projects related to noncredit CTE program design, community college student success, and economic returns to noncredit programs. Responsibilities include collaborating with faculty PI and co-PIs on the project; assisting with project management, including communication with the state partner; cleaning complicated longitudinal college administrative and labor market data for analysis; using quasi-experimental designs to assess impacts of noncredit policies and programs on student outcomes and to estimate economic returns to programs; engaging in co-design of surveys; publishing and presenting findings; writing funding proposals to seek additional external support; consulting with and mentoring teams of graduate and undergraduate students; managing communication, training sessions, and dissemination of research results; and coordinating the personnel and facilities within the noncredit CTE project team.

Requirements: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Education, Economics, or Public Policy; broad expertise in research and evaluation of educational programs and policies using rigorous quasi-experimental designs; particular expertise on topics related to career technical education, college curricula, and student success; broad knowledge of quantitative research design; experience preparing complex longitudinal datasets for analysis, including cleaning, coding, merging, and managing data; successful experience in development of survey measures; advanced expertise in academic writing and editing for peer-reviewed scholarly articles; successful experience in writing human subjects protocols; demonstrated ability to work well with others, including both receiving direction and providing direction; and expertise in collaborating with college administrators and leading research initiatives and teams.
