Postdoctoral position available:Our changing hydrologic cycle and the future of agriculture
Dr. Angela Rigden in the Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine is seeking a creative and motivated postdoctoral fellow to investigate the implications of a changing hydrologic cycle on agriculture using multi-scale observations and models. Candidates will be expected to analyze large datasets (e.g., from satellites and climate models), develop and implement models, communicate results in peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, and mentor students.
This is a one-year position that is renewable for up to three years, pending good progress and funding. The start date is flexible, ideally sometime in the Spring of 2023. The salary will range from 55,000 to 66,000 USD per year, scaling with experience as detailed here, and includes generous benefits.
Your qualifications:
An expected or recent Ph.D. in the geosciences or related fields (hydrology, agronomy, environmental science, climate science, statistics, data science, or other STEM fields) is required at time of hire. Ideal candidates will be familiar with land-atmosphere interactions, crop yield models, and/or remote sensing. Proficient programming (Python, MATLAB, or R) and quantitative skills are strongly preferred.
Please apply online with:
(1) Cover letter that includes a description of your immediate and long-term research goals
(2) Curriculum vitae with a list of publications
(3) Contact information for 2-4 reference letters (please do not solicit letters).
If you have any questions, please email Dr. Angela Rigden (arigden@uci.edu) with “Postdoc Application Question” in the subject line. Candidates can learn more about our research group from our website: https://faculty.sites.uci.edu/rigdenlab/.
The ESS Department and UCI Campus:
The Earth System Science Department at UC Irvine is highly interdisciplinary. It is comprised of around 25 faculty with expertise spanning the Earth System, including land surface processes, atmospheric and climate dynamics, terrestrial and marine biogeochemical cycles, ice sheets, and human systems.
UC Irvine is located about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego in coastal Southern California. It’s a nice place to live, not far from beaches, and in a Mediterranean climate.
