The Department of Engineering Management in the Faculty of Business and Economics is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Responsible AI.
You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of Responsible AI. The proposed project investigates how Explainable AI techniques can be applied to generative AI systems (particularly Large Language Models) when they are used for decision-making. Both technical and societal dimensions will be addressed.
You will be a part of the Antwerp Center on Responsible AI (ACRAI) and have access to a broad, interdisciplinary research network across faculties.
You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
You will present your research at both national and international conferences.
You will carry out a limited number of teaching support tasks for courses in line with your research topic.
You hold a Master degree in Business Engineering, Economic sciences, Computer Science or Engineering, or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
You have excellent programming skills (Python).
You can demonstrate excellent study results.
Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of 1 year. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for another period of 1 year, up until a maximum of 4 years in total.
The planned start date is 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible after that date.
Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders.
You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
As a doctoral researcher, you will have access to a wide and varied range of courses and an educational credit through the Antwerp Doctoral School.
You will do most of your work at the City Campus of the University of Antwerp in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
